Introduction
Recombinant DNA technology, more commonly known as Introduction/32.html">Genetic Engineering, has revolutionized biology and had a profound impact on clinical medicine. Prior to The Development of recombinant DNA Methods, human genetic diseases were studied through pedigree analysis and the investigation of abnormal Proteins. However, in many cases where the specific type of genetic defect cannot be identified, these approaches prove largely ineffective. The new technology makes it possible to access the required information directly at the DNA molecule level. This chapter discusses the core concepts underlying recombinant DNA technology and its Applications in clinical medicine. A brief glossary is provided at the end of the chapter.
