The suborder Athecae includes a single species, the leatherback turtle (Dermochelys coriacea), which is the largest among all living turtles. The body length of large individuals reaches up to 2 m with a weight of up to 400 kg. This turtle is widely distributed in the tropical and subtropical waters of three oceans and is listed in the IUCN Red List.
