SUPERCLASS CERCOMEROMORPHA (CERCOMEROMORPHA)
A group of classes characterized by the presence of a larval tail appendage, the cercomer, armed with chitinoid hooks. In monogeneans, the cercomer transforms into a fixation organ—the attachment disc—in adults; in gyrocotylids and amphilinids, only the larval hooks persist from the cercomer in adult animals, whereas in adult tapeworms, all traces of the cercomer disappear completely.
