Amoeboid unicellular or plasmodial (a plasmodium is a multinucleated amoeboid Cell) protists possess lobopodia, filopodia, or reticulopodia; many of them have shells. Flagellated stages are either short-lived or completely absent. Mitochondria feature cristae of various shapes. They feed primarily by phagocytosis. The phylum includes seven classes.
