Molecular Diagnostics is a rapidly evolving field. Although its core principles are already well-established, the technical details of individual assays may vary. PCR is now successfully used to obtain sufficient quantities of target DNA. The Use of PCR and specific probes significantly enhances assay sensitivity, enabling the application of non-radioactive chromogenic, chemiluminescent, and fluorescent detection systems. In many cases, detecting a mutation or the exogenous DNA of an infectious agent in a sample simply requires PCR followed by electrophoretic Separation of the products. There is no doubt that DNA diagnostics will make it possible to detect most, and perhaps even all, of the most common genetic and infectious diseases, as well as neoplasms.
