Characteristics of Pedigrees with Various Inheritance Patterns
Pedigrees in Mitochondrial Inheritance

Mitochondrial DISEASES ASSOCIATED WITH Mitochondrial DNA Mutations are characterized by mitochondrial or CYTOPLASMIC INHERITANCE patterns.

Pedigrees exhibiting Mitochondrial Inheritance have the following distinctive features:

1. The disease is transmitted from an affected mother to all her children, both sons and daughters (Fig. 4.12).

2. Transmission of the disease through the paternal line is impossible.

In multifactorial disorders, The Development of which is associated with multiple susceptibility genes and environmental factors, pedigrees are characterized by familial clustering of disease cases but do not conform to any of the aforementioned inheritance patterns (see Fig. 7.2).
