Micronodular liver cirrhosis

Portal cirrhosis is characterized by a uniform microscopic pattern, featuring a fine Connective Tissue meshwork and small pseudo-lobules. Microscopic examination in this type of cirrhosis most commonly reveals signs of chronic inflammation and fatty degeneration of hepatocytes. Macroscopically, the liver is small, firm, granular, or finely nodular. Portal cirrhosis develops slowly over many years, most frequently in association with chronic alcoholism.
