The Respiratory system (systema respiratorium) is a group of Organs that ensures gas exchange between the air and Blood. It includes the conducting pathways and the respiratory division, which consists of pulmonary acini.

In addition to external respiration, the respiratory system performs many other vital Functions for the body, such as:

— thermoregulation and humidification of inhaled air;

— filtering out dust and microorganisms;

— blood pooling within its well-developed vascular network;

— contributing to blood clotting regulation;

— synthesis of certain Hormones;

— vocalization, Olfaction, and immune defense.

The respiratory system comprises conducting airways and gas-exchange regions where gas exchange between the blood and air takes place because these two environments are separated there.
