Manual Exploration of the Uterine Cavity

Indications:

- retained placental tissue or suspected incomplete Placenta;

- uterine Hemorrhage;

- following obstetric surgeries;

- following embryotomy Procedures;

- uterine incision or suspected Uterine rupture;

- grade III cervical laceration, etc.

Surgical technique.

After preparing the external genitalia and the obstetrician's hands, a sterile drape is placed over the partururient's abdomen. The labia are parted with the left hand, while the right hand, held in a cone shape, is introduced into the uterine cavity. The left hand is then placed on the uterine fundus. Under the guidance of the left hand, the entire internal surface of the uterine cavity is thoroughly explored with the right hand. Any retained placental tissue and Blood clots are removed, and once the Uterus has contracted, the hand is withdrawn from the cavity.
