Brain - Embryogenesis of the brain - Isthmus of rhombencephalon

The isthmus is a Brain region which, during embryonic development, forms a narrow constriction separating the rhombencephalon from the mesencephalon (Midbrain vesicle); it is called the isthmus rhombencephali. Following differentiation, the isthmus includes the following structures:

- superior cerebellar peduncles, pedunculi cerebellares superiores;

- superior medullary velum, velum medullare superius;

- trigone of the lemniscus, trigonum lemnisci.
