Vomer

The vomer is an unpaired bone (Fig. 48G) that participates in The formation of the posteroinferior part of the nasal septum. The upper margin of the vomer is thicker than the lower one and is divided into two everted processes known as the wings of the vomer, or ala vomeris. The posterior margin of the bone is free and separates the posterior apertures of the Nasal cavity—the choanae—from one another.

Ossification. The vomer develops from two ossification centers that appear during the 2nd month of prenatal development.
