PULMONARY VENTILATION
Pulmonary ventilation ensures the renewal of air within the alveoli. It occurs As a result of periodic Changes in the thoracic cavity volume during inspiration (inspiratio) and expiration (expiratio). The sequential alternation of inspiration and expiration constitutes the respiratory cycle. An increase in chest volume drives inspiration, while its decrease drives expiration. Inspiration results from the contraction of inspiratory Muscles. Quiet expiration is a passive process, whereas deep expiration involves the contraction of expiratory muscles.
