On one side of the section surface, we can observe a Connective Tissue capsule (1) covered by Peritoneum with mesothelium (2), from which trabeculae (3) extend deep into the organ. Red and white pulp are located between the trabeculae.
The white pulp consists of rounded lymphoid nodules (follicles) with a high density of purple nuclei belonging to lymphocytes (4). The nodule features a light (reactive) center (5) and a darker peripheral zone (mantle and marginal zone) (6). Lateral to the center, a central arteriole (7) is typically located, surrounded by an accumulation of T-lymphocytes, known as the periarteriolar zone. The accumulations of lymphocytes forming sheaths along the course of Arteries are called periarteriolar lymphoid sheaths. The red pulp (8) is composed of formed Blood elements, predominantly erythrocytes, located between the white pulp nodules. Trabecular arteries (9) and Veins are situated within the trabeculae (3).
