Examination of this slide demonstrates that The Development of the lung (bronchial tree) proceeds similarly to the development of a complex branched alveolar gland.

At low magnification, one can observe the organ stroma, rich in Connective Tissue Cells (1), containing Blood Vessels sectioned in various directions (2). Attention is drawn to the relatively wide lumens with convoluted borders. These are sections of small Bronchi (3) lined with cuboidal epithelium. Alongside these, relatively narrow lumens of alveoli (4) can be seen. They remain unexpanded and are lined with the same cuboidal epithelium as the bronchi. Only after the first breath do the alveoli expand, and their epithelium becomes flattened.
