Glycogen Metabolism
Introduction

Glycogen is the primary form of carbohydrate storage in animals; in plants, this role is fulfilled by starch. Glycogen is stored mainly in the Liver (up to 6% of liver mass) and in Muscles, where its content rarely exceeds 1% (Table 19.1). Like starch, glycogen is a branched polymer of a-glucose (see Fig. 14.15).
