Practical Protein Chemistry - A. Darbre 1989
Enzymatic fragmentation of the polypeptide chain
Proteases with low specificity
α-Lytic protease from Sorangium sp.
The isolation of $\alpha$-lytic protease was described in 1965 [114]. The enzyme is not commercially available as a preparation. In terms of Specificity, the enzyme is similar to Elastase. It is hypothesized that the $\alpha$-lytic protease is more specific [115], but a direct comparison between the two Enzymes has not been performed. Relatively recently, the enzyme has been utilized in A number of studies [100–103].
