Reserve functions of blood proteins
One of the prerequisites for normal body functioning is the presence of reserve systems capable of compensating for shifts in metabolic intensity that occur during various physiological loads or pathological processes. Plasma Proteins are among such systems; their normal concentration significantly exceeds what is strictly required to sustain the body's transport, regulatory, and protective Functions. Noticeable impairments in colloid-osmotic regulation and metabolite transport are observed only when albumin levels drop by more than 50%. The concentrations of y-globulin, fibrinogen, transferrin, and other proteins also exceed the body's baseline physiological needs several times over. This "surplus" creates a reserve pool that is drawn upon during metabolic disruptions and various pathological states.
