1.1. DENSITY
Density of matter ρ is the mass per unit volume:

where m is the mass of the body; V is the volume of the body. The unit of density measurement is kg·m-3.
Density is used as an evaluation parameter for woody vegetation. The density of dry solid wood substance is about 1,5·103 kg·m-3. For most wood species utilized commercially by humans, the density ranges from (0,35-0,65)·103 kg·m-3. It is reported [Rayve et al., 1990] that the lowest density is characteristic of the species Aeschynomene hispida (0,044·103 kg·m-3), while the highest is found in ironwood, Olea capensis (1,49·103 kg·m-3).
In addition, density is a key quality parameter for plant products.
