Prediction of low-complexity regions
As shown in the studies mentioned above, Structure/70.html">Low Sequence Complexity differs from disorder, although predicting low-complexity regions can be viewed as a first rational approach to assessing disorder, or at least a lack of globularity. The Shannon Entropy function (Shannon 1948), adapted for protein sequences (Wootton 1994a, b), forms The basis of the SEG program, which is commonly used to identify compositional low-complexity segments whose sequences are prone to forming disordered regions.
